Good Books and Who am I?

A book that made an impression on me was A Separate Peace by John Knowles. I don't remember the whole premise of the book, but I do remember that the book changed my view of how I saw myself in 8th grade. It has been 5 years since I read the book, so I definitely need to reread it, but I definitely remember that the book was influential to my growth as a college preparatory school. Although I may not have been a border, being at a school such as Webb, that book made me question how I was to act and show my character. That book set a premise of my actions and my attitude toward Webb and its community. That book possibly inspired me to become a better person, which then in turn inspired my classmates to elect me as a student council representative freshman year and maybe even honor council sergeant-at-arms senior year.

I am Noah Jolley. I honestly don't know who I am or where I am going. I think I have an idea of who I am and where I want to go. I think I am a soccer player who decided to play football his senior year of high school. I was born in Saigon, Vietnam in 2001, and I was adopted into the Jolley family in 2002, at exactly 5 months old. Growing up my parents got me into soccer because they wanted me to do something active to help my 2 month premature body grow. I developed a love for the "beautiful game." My parents then asked me what I wanted to be when I got older. When I was younger I thought I wanted to be an astronaut or a paleontologist, but now I think I want to be a marine biologist or maybe even a history teacher. I have never really known who I am other than a young kid who thinks he's just trying to do well in the world; to try to make the world a better place. I honestly don't care what I become as long as I know that I am helping not just humanity, but also helping the environment and the creatures that live in it. Who I am and where I want to go change everyday, but what shouldn't change is my desire to help this planet.

  1. I am so glad that you liked that book! I agree. I think it is such a great story! It is hard to know where one is going. Surprises along the way can change our directions from one day to the next! I do that wherever you go and in whatever you do, you will be successful! I have always appreciated your genuine character, ability to see both sides of things, and sincerity!
